So, because of “my” ancestors attacking and killing Native American ancestors, i am not allowed to earn a head-dress from the cultural N.A.’s….it is wrong for me to believe the way they do, and to practice as such, is foreseen as a mockery. no. i may be “white” but i am nothing like the white man. my “history” may go back with the cruel and heartless bastards i must associate with, but my heart, my soul, and my spirituality goes back with the natives…..

If that last part were true, you’d quietly and humbly accept that it is not your place to wear a headdress.

reach-for-the-horizon: I don’t care about what is or isn’t “my place”. I surely don’t care about doing anything “quietly and humbly”. If you’re honest with yourself, you’ll admit that you don’t care about those things either. And you shouldn’t! Remember that any and all associations you have with the war bonnet are socially constructed.

As I’ve said before, you’d never guess this from reading the Native American tumblrs, but white people wearing feather head dresses are not the biggest problem facing the Native American community.

For stating this obvious fact, I’ve had all sorts of abuse and gibberish (and even a few violent threats) posted to my inbox, but nothing that would lead me to believe that I should change my opinion.

Some educated Native Americans get offended when they see white people wearing war bonnets. You should let Stephen Fry be your guide here.

Ah.  You aren’t “anything like the white man” yet you think it’s your place to tell us what the warbonnet should mean, and you believe you have the right to do as you please with no consequences because everything is a social construct.

Funny.  Sounds exactly like “the white man” to me.  Your ” heart, [your] soul, and [your] spirituality” has absolutely squat to do with us, and you’ve made it clear you respect nothing about our actual spirituality, so why bring it up at all?

Trust me, we don’t need another white saviour telling us what’s really important.  We actually live it.

Stop being a disrespectful ass.  That’ll go a long way to addressing the systemic disrespect.
