A controversial member of the Edmonton Police Commission should be fired from his new job as High Prairie’s town manager, a report commissioned by the provincial government says…
It’s not Tamaklo’s first controversial appointment. In his first month as police commissioner in January 2011, the Journal revealed Edmonton city council had hired Tamaklo without calling references or asking about a past breathalyzer conviction…
In 1995, Tamaklo went on to manage the books at the Whitefish Lake First Nation in Atikameg, less than 100 kilometres northeast of High Prairie. He was let go 12 years later, shortly after Court of Queen’s Bench Justice J.E. Topolniski placed the band under receivership. A court-commissioned report noted $1.1 million in irregular loans to band members and employees, unpaid utilities bills, and money borrowed at high interest rates. Tamaklo made $175,000 a year, including travel expenses, a fully insured truck, and a housing benefit paid to a company owned by his wife…
In a January 2011 interview, Tamaklo chalked up problems in Atikameg to internal politics on the band council, and his refusal of the breathalyzer to feelings he and his family were “becoming unfair targets.”
Here we have a fellow who has been definitely linked to corruption both as a manager on reserve and as a manager in a non-native municipality, and yet strangely, Ezra Levant isn’t on tv screaming for his blood or demanding that the Conservatives appoint a Third Party Manager to the highly corrupt and dysfunctional town of High Prairie.
And this, my friends, is how non-natives get a pass in this country. A pass, even when the corruption is well documented and proven, whereas apparently making allegations about such in Attawapiskat and elsewhere is acceptable even when the Federal Court cleared the community of any such mismanagement.
And people were screaming bloody murder about Chief Theresa Spence’s salary when this crook was making $175,000 TAX FREE, plus expenses?
