A study done last year found that job applicants with ‘foreign’ names were much less likely to get callbacks than those with anglo names (or francophone names in Quebec).

Having a francophone name does not guarantee you a job in Quebec.  That isn’t what the study found.

But it did find that having a francophone name makes you 40% more likely to get a job than someone who is equally qualified but has a ‘foreign’ name.  That’s here in Quebec.  A francophone name might work against you outside of this province.

These studies have been done in every major city in Canada, with results that pretty conclusively show a widespread bias against job applicants with ‘foreign names’.  Your specific job experience does not negate that.  But perhaps it was really important for you to choose this moment to complain about your specific employment situation?

I’m not sure, perhaps you were applying for a job outside of Quebec?  That’s the only scenario in which it would make sense for you to have made this comment.
