Careful, the turban might bite you!

So Quebec is prohibiting Sikh boys from participating in official soccer programs if they wear turbans, citing a safety risk.

I spent 10 minutes this morning imaging how turbans could possibly pose a risk to safety in soccer.

Let’s just say, I’ve got the beginning of a great Sci-fi story.

Oh Quebec. The province so secular, you’ve got crucifixes in the National Assembly and a huge cross on Mount Royal.

This is an awesome article. Cumbersnatch takes the role of a PoC supervillain and that’s cool, no problem, okay some people are upset but those people are always upset and hating on Clumsycrotch is racist, AMIRITE!? But you mess with fanboy’s white heroes and the claws come out…it’s like you tried to friend zone them.

Anyway, read this.

Re: “First Nations blackmail shouldn’t shape policy,” Naomi Lakritz, Opinion, April 5.

Why should taxpayers continue to provide millions of dollars to support a society that seems to do little to support itself? First Nations are eager to negotiate a better deal, but it is always a one-sided negotiation. On one side is the demand for settlement of land claims, more money for reserves, health care and education. Where do the demands stop?

Hey, where are all the white boys to tell me how calling them white is just as bad as the shit spewed out of this racist piece of shit’s mouth?

I guess each newspaper has to learn individually that providing a platform for mouth-breathing racists is not okay?

He had a point, didn’t he?

Did anyone ever do a write up on the whole Kanye West interruption of Taylor Swift in a way that acknowledged race instead of just portraying him as an ego-maniacal jerkface?

Because I swear, she’s still taking withdrawals from her bank of white tears on that one.

White people.

Yo have have NO idea how much hatred we face.

You have NO idea how many people have told us we are stupid, lazy, criminal, worthless, obsolete, inferior.

You have NO idea how many times our teachers, and other people in positions of authority have put us down, mocked us, erased our culture and history and told us we will only be useful if we deny ourselves and become completely assimilated.

You have NO idea how many times we have faced violence, emotional and physical, because of who we are, and how many times that violence was explicitly linked to hatred of us.

You have NO idea how many times we have tried to convince people that we are human beings. How many times we have engaged the same tired old arguments with people who are hellbent on seeing us as less than human. How many times we have tried to hold in the nausea and anger in order to ‘remain polite’. How many times we have felt our blood go cold at the things people say and believe about us. How many times we simply cannot continue these conversations because they are NOT abstract, ideological debates, they are attacks on us, personally and as a whole.

So when you whine about our tone, or you feel offended when we cut you off or refuse to engage, or we yell at you for the awful things you say…the awful things you claim are harmless ‘what ifs’…

…and we tell you that you just don’t get it…

Believe that.

You live such unbelievably sheltered lives, and yet you work so damn hard to deny this to yourselves, and to everyone else around you.

Right now, many of you are screaming in your heads about how hard you have it, and how oppressed you feel by my words.

And your total ignorance of what it actually means to be oppressed is at the heart of why this shit isn’t actually getting any better.

From the Alaska Native Knowledge Network (ANKN), this graphic is an excellent way to clarify for people that culture is much more than food, dress, music and dancing. Something that should be obvious, but is often overlooked, particularly when discussing ‘the other’.

this does not surprise me in the least

I love how this equates all the vitriolic hatred, the pure unadultered anti-native racism of settler descendants, with white people (justifiably) being called racist.

Further proof that it’s the absolute worst thing you can call whitey.  Even worse than cracker.

Yeah, claiming that people like Blatchford are just ‘raising legitimate issues’ and not engaging in full out hate speech is a symptom of the deep sickness that is Canadian society.

Good. These people need to be held accountable for their words.

Woman Attacks Vehicle of Native Protester Dec 19 2012 London Ont

Someone just tweeted this to me.

We are going to see more acts of violence aimed at us as we continue to rise and organise and assert ourselves. Please look out for one another, be safe, be aware. These acts of violence are unacceptable, but we have seen just how far some people will go because they are ignorant and racist. This movement is important, but your lives are more important. Just…be safe.

A homeless single mother who lives in her van pleaded not guilty yesterday to stealing nearly $16,000 worth of education for her son by enrolling the kindergartner in her baby sitter’s school district.

Tanya McDowell, 33, was arraigned in Norwalk, where she was arrested April 14 on felony charges of committing and attempting to commit first-degree larceny.

Prosecutors say McDowell used her baby sitter’s address to enroll her son in Norwalk schools in the fall but should have registered the boy in nearby Bridgeport, a significantly poorer urban district and the location of her last permanent address.

This is so disgusting, I don’t even have the words.

Any parent would do the same thing. Any one of us would do this to get our kids a better education.  And yet parents who do this are being criminalised?

What a fucked up, scary system.  The follow up to this story is here…she was later sentenced to 5 years for selling drugs and a concurrent sentence of 5 years for the school case.  Apparently she lost support after being charged with selling drugs to undercover cops.  As though this has anything to do with her trying to get her son into a better school…and forgive me if I seem paranoid about why undercover cops were shadowing her in the first place.

Anyway.
